The Cost of Green Hydrogen

Hydrogen Production Cost From Electrolysis.

The cost of “green hydrogen” produced through the electrolysis process is about 60% dependent on the price of electricity. Therefore, once the power consumption of the electrolysis plant has been established, it is easy to evaluate the indicative cost of the gas produced. At these links you can find the current price of electricity in Italy (PUN) and in the world.

The power consumption of the electrolyser is generally expressed in kWh per kg of hydrogen produced (kWh/kg), however often the data supplied by the producers is the flow of hydrogen produced expressed in normal cubic meters per hour (Nmc/h) and the power of the electrolyser (kW). In this case you can use the calculator below to determine it.

Electrolyzer efficiency is the efficiency with which the electrolyzer converts electricity into hydrogen. It is equal to the energy content (based on the lower heating value) of the hydrogen produced divided by the amount of electricity consumed. Hydrogen LHV is 33.3 kWh/kg.
